I received documents from the Aveiro Archivo by writing my letter in Portugese.Used a Portugese Dictionary, a Portugese Grammar book, and a Portugese Verb book. The most important thing to receiving documents from Portugese archives is knowing the Concelho and the frequesia of the documents you want. Also, you must know which archive maintains documents covering the years you want.
I am in America and it took four months to receive my documents.Perhaps it took that long to decipher my poor Portugese, but I also sent a letter in English as a translation.

Also, you must send Euro or Portugese currency.Worked like a charm.
