Portugal Family Name

Hi,

I was born in Hanford California and now live in Fresno California. My Grandfather was Anthony Portugal and went by Tony or Peabody. He passed away in October 30, 2001 I believe.

I am researching our last name and trying to get information to pass on to my Son and share with my family. My Dad, Albert, is a third-generation American at least but my Grandmother says that my Grandfather's family comes from the island of Pico in the Azores.

I am mainly interested in two things. The first is whether our last name has always been Portugal and if not what the other names were. The second is to find our family coat of arms. Any help is appreciated.
