Jose,
Thank you for your reply.Any help you could give locating the London TAIT descendant would be greatly appreciated.
I had the following information:
From "Oporto Older and Newer", by Gerald Cobb, Chapter 20, page 66
"The TAITS came from Dumfries where William Arthur Tait was born in 1817.He arrived in Oporto in 1834 to set up a general merchandise and shipping agencywhich by 1850 included the Royal Mail Steam Packet Co.Two of his four sons continued in the family business, WIlliam Chester and George. The former had one son, WIlliam Alfred (Will) and two daughters, Dorothy and Muriel, who still live in the family home, the lovely Entre Quintas with its fine view over the mouth of the river Douro. Will married Sybil Elles and their youngest of four sons, Alan, now runs the shipping and travel agency.William Chester Tait was a keen ornithologist and as such wrote The Birds of Portugal.
George Tait married Ellen Murat.Their family consisted of Geoff married to Winifred Bartlett (sister to Vrede Physey), Ruth Jennings, Marjorie Reid and Joan Beloe.
Charles, another son of the orignal W. Arthur Tait, married Emily Reid, sister to Robert Reid of Campanha. Finally Charles' brother, Alfred, created Baro de Soutelinho by Dom Carlos, was a Fellow of The Royal Society and the Linnean Society."
