Dear RFisher:
Here is what I found on your Travassos line.
Marriage, 14 May 1854, São Pedro (SP) parish, Vila Franca do Campo (VFC):
- João Travassos, baptized in SP, VFC, son of João Travassos and Ana Júlia.
- Maria do Rosário, baptized in SP, VFC, daughter of António da Costa Maceta and Maria do Espírito Santo.
(Please note: "Rosário", "Espírito Santo", etc., were used in women as religous names, not surnames, and many times they change from record to record, so your ancestor Maria do Espírito Santo is the same as Maria do Rosário here. We can also notice her mother was Maria do Espírito Santo, so she was also known by her mother's religious name. This sort of name change also appears in my own family - I have the same ancestor with "do Nascimento", "da Trindade" and "de Jesus")
Marriage, 28 Sep 1831, SP, VFC
- João Travassos, born in SP, VFC, aged 24, son of José Travassos, mother's name not given.
- Ana Júlia, born in SP, VFC, aged 18, daugher of Francisco Rodrigues and Antónia Jacinta.
Since João's mother's name wasn't given in this record, I checked the baptisms for that time and found only one João, son of José Travassos, in the years around 1807: João, born 15 Oct 1807, son of José Travassos and Ana Tomásia, paternal grandson of Francisco de Matos and Antónia Margarida, maternal grandson ofFrancisco de Sousa and Luzia da Conceição.
Marriage, 17 Sep 1803, SP, VFC
- José Travassos, son of Francisco de Matos and Antónia Margarida.
- Ana Tomásia, daughter of Francisco de Sousa and Luzia de Melo (note: Melo is a true surname, Conceição is a religious name).
Marriage, 10 Feb 1761, SP, VFC
- Francisco de Matos, born in São Miguel parish, VFC, son of João de Matos and Joana Rodrigues.
- Antónia Margarida, born in SP, VFC, daughter of João Travassos and Engrácia Luís.
Marriage, 13 Feb 1746, SP, VFC
- João Travassos, son of Miguel Travassos and Antónia de Sousa.
- Engrácia Luís, daughter of António Gonçalves and Maria Carneiro.
I didn't find the marriage record for Miguel Travassos and Antónia de Sousa in the SP parish. Perhaps Antónia wasn't from that parish.
However, these data are enough to see that your Travassos line shouldn't come from my ancestor Águeda Travassos. Your ancestor Miguel seems to be too old to be her son. Perhaps there is a very remote connection, but not in Vila Franca do Campo, since Águeda Travassos was from Porto Formoso.
Best regards,
Rui Pereira
