Thanks and sorry, I wish it were my Alvarez.I have hit the brick wall with my search. My John ALVAREZ was b. about 1828 Portugal, arrived S.AUS about 1854, married Margaret McCaughey about 1856 and upon the birth of his first child changed the name to Alves. They were in the Mt Crawford, Kadina, Gawler, Wallaroo Mines area. His firstborn son was John ALVES b. Mt Crawford in 1857 (my ggrandfather) and he didn't marry until he was 40 in 1897.He was a teamster in the cartage/forwarding agent business in Coolgardie, W.A.I doubt that since your John was a lithographer that they are one and the same but I am curious that there were two in S.A. at this time. And since he didn't marry until age 40, there was plenty of time to have had another family before.... Are there any other clues that may be found on the certificate? It is interesting that you are looking for a SHAW - John Alves had six children with Mabel Taylor when he died in 1909.Left with six children, Mabel remarried an Alfred Craven, b. England. They had four children and daughter Sarah Craven married an Alfred SHAW, b. England 1908, died Perth, 1994.
Will keep your message in my file in case something else comes to light. Thanks, and good luck.
