Isabel of Braganza m.Simon Corea, King of Sitawaka
Looking for information concerning Isabel of Braganza, who married Simon Corea (Simao Correa Disawa), King of Sitawaka. Their daughter, Maria Corea, married Antao Modaller (d.1637) a descendant of the Kotte Kings of Sri Lanka.
I'd like to find out if Isabel is a Ducal Braganza of Portugal, and therefore related to the ruling houses of Portugal and Brazil. She is described as an "orphaned Portugese aristocrat", and from 1560 on some noble orphaned ladies were sent to Goa to marry local grandees and help in the Portuguese colonial effort. It's possible Isabel was one of these orphans, but I have no proof.
While not personally ancestors of mine, I am in contact with a descendant of Isabel and Simon Corea (Simao Correa Disawa) and we would both appreciate any information.
Thank you,
Jessica Bonner
