My maternal grandmother was a Fidalgo. She was born in the US of immigrant parents from Flores. She predeceased my parents' marriage and was disowned by her parents for marrying my greenhorn grandfather. The line from her sister has no knowlege. A brother John left in anger at her disownment, went West and became a sheepherder and was not heard from after one contact. I don't know any names, other than the surname and the island. Her other siblings and extended family died in the 1917 flu epidemic. Her father was Joao, had worked on whalers and settled in New London, Ct. I know nothing about her mother. ( I know, this would make a good pot boiler.)
Fidalgo doesn't seem to be a common name, so I thought I'd just throw this out to see if anyone has any info.
