I am researching my children's paternal lines, and hope that some other family researchers whose ancestors emigrated to Guatemala and Honduras may have information. The earliest information we have relate to my husband's maternal great-grandparents: 1. Gertrudis ARGUETA (b. probably around 1835, or earlier.) She married Gordiano RAMIREZ. We don't know if they were first generation Guatemaltecos or second. The family lore is that these families emigrated from Spain. We know of two children. Ismael RAMIREZ ARGUETA (b. abt 1857, Guatemala, Guatemala, d. 1936, Marale, Honduras) m. Mariana FOLGAR PORTILLO abt 1879. Vicente RAMIREZ ARGUETA. 2. Leandro FOLGAR, my husband's other maternal great-grandfather, m. Juana PORTILLO. The family lore is that the FOLGAR family was originally from France. We know there were at least 4 children and, based on the grandmother's birthdate, Juana PORTILLO was probably b. abt 1845. Children: Mariana FOLGAR PORTILLO (b. either 10 Apr or 18 Apr 1865, Ciudad de Guatemala, Guatemala, d. 14 Jul 1967, Tegucigalpa, Honduras). Bernarda FOLGAR PORTILLO (died young) Rosa FOLGAR PORTILLO Unknown FOLGAR PORTILLO Another *possible* sibling from IGI (the surnames may just be a coincidence): Maria de los Angeles FOLGAR PORTILLO (b. 2 Aug 1878, San Luis Jilotepeque, Jalapa, Guatemala) We know that Juana PORTILLO died and Leandro FOLGAR m. 2nd a sister to Ismael RAMIREZ ARGUETA. My husband's paternal grandparents: Ismael RAMIREZ ARGUETA m. Mariana FOLGAR PORTILLO abt 1879, when Mariana was 14 and Grandfather Ismael was 22 in Guatemala. They emigrated to Honduras when he was 26. Children from this marriage: Mother: Living RAMIREZ FOLGAR (b. abt 1910, Village of Carpintero, Francisco Morazán, Tegucigalpa, Honduras) Manuel Abel RAMIREZ FOLGAR Manuel Vicente RAMIREZ FOLGAR Jose Leon RAMIREZ FOLGAR Isidro RAMIREZ FOLGAR Victor RAMIREZ FOLGAR Roberto RAMIREZ FOLGAR Living RAMIREZ FOLGAR Marcolfa RAMIREZ FOLGAR Soledad RAMIREZ FOLGAR (who married a general when she was 14) Erlinda RAMIREZ FOLGAR Blanca RAMIREZ FOLGAR Sarita RAMIREZ FOLGAR There were supposed to be 17 children, but these are the only ones that one cousin remembered. Perhaps other siblings died at birth. As a bonus, I discovered that there is a school in the Village of Carpintero, Francisco Morazan, Tegucigalpa, Honduras named "Escuela Mariana Folgar de Ramirez." Any information on these families and earlier antecedents would be appreciated. Regards, Lorraine Allrelated Notify Administrator about this message?
