I also am trying to get information about the Edward Porteus line. In a 4/22/1684 letter, William Fitzhugh (Stafford Co, Va) wrote the following to Nicholas Heyward Jr of London: "... Your Uncle Porteous remote haabitation ...". I believe that this reference is to Edward Porteous of New Bottle, Gloucester Co, Va. In another letter dated 1/31/1686/87, William Fitzhugh wrote to Nicholas Jr: "... Since my last writing I have, with your Uncle Porteous, once at James Town ... drank your health ...". Nicholas' sister Hester married my ancestor Richard Foote of London and their son Richard Foote settled in the Chotank area of Stafford County (now King George), Virginia near William Fitzhugh. I believe that Nicholas Jr & Hester's mother (wife of Nicholas Heyward Sr, merchant of London) may have been a sister of Edward Porteus of New Bottle, Gloucester Co, Va. Any information that you have on the family would be of interest to me. Thank you.
