Have you found any more information about Nathan PORTER, Sr. or Jr.? FamilySearch database of the census of 1880, Danville, Vermilion, IL: Nathan PORTER, 39, OH PA PA; wf. Margaret, 32, OH OH OH; ch. b. IL: Syvanus, 7; Hester E., 5; Phoebe E., 5, & Lemuel, 1.

In Decatur, Decatur, IA, 1880: Hiram C. PORTER, 45, OH PA PA; wf. Catharine A., 44, OH VA VA; sons b. IL: Mathew J., 17, & Asa H., 15; sons b. Iowa: Mark M., 10, & Samuel C., 4.

In Hudson, McLean, IL, 1880: Samuel PORTER, 49, OH PA PA; wf. Sarah L., 45, OH VA VA; ch. b. IL: dau. Sonord, 18; Frank, 15; Oscar, 11; & Georgia, 5.

Do you know whether Nathan's son Lemuel might be Samuel, since Nathan had a brother Samuel? Did Syvanus = Sylvanus? What was Sonord supposed to be?

Did the 1850 census of Hopewell Twp., Muskingum Co., OH, agree that the parents of Nathan were born in Pennsylvania? If so, it appears that the above might be the sons of Nathan & Hester. How old were Nathan & Hester in 1850?

I don't know whether this might connect to my family. I descend from four generations of men named Peter PORTER of early Maryland.

A Nathaniel PORTER m. by 1744, Sarah, who joined him, 25 Jan. 1744/5, in selling the tract "Jones' Gift" to John & Wm. MONTGOMERY, Baltimore Co., MD.

Robert BARNES' MD Marriages:

Nathaniel PORTER m. 31 Aug. 1784, Rebecca MASON.
Nathan PORTER m. 10 Jan. 1793, Pamella SCOTT, both in Baltimore County.

Nathaniel PORTER who m. Rebecca was also known as Nathan PORTER (2 Aug. 1763 - 8 Aug. 1836) and lived near Ellicott Mills, MD. He was son of Peter PORTER, 5. Nathan had brothers Caleb and John.

Have you found anything to indicate your PORTER family might have lived in Maryland before Pennsylvania and Ohio?
