My ggggrandfather Alexander Porter was b. April 26, 1798 d. Dec. 28, 1861 m. Jane Young. They lived in the Swannanoa area of Buncombe Co. NC. Their children were Isabella Porter Stepp, Maj. William Y. Porter, John H. Porter, Nancy S. Porter Stepp, Mary A. Porter Stepp, Martha M. Porter.

Alexander came from Mecklenberg Co. or Lincoln Co. NC.

I've collected references from Mecklenberg and Buncombe Counties over the past few years trying to find the names of Alexander's parents. This one from HugginsVol III, Burke Co. NC, seems to fit time, names, and place, and appears to be the family you have mentioned here.

On Oct.19, 1802(page 351) Power of Attorney was given James Armstrong by Alexander and Margaret Porter of Mecklenberg Co. , John and Mary Robinson, Robert and Elizabeth Patrick, Martha and James Leeper of Lincoln Co.
(page 352) Mathew Armstrong (dec'd)bequest to daughter Jean, afterwards Jean Leeper, her descendants: Alexander Porter, John Robinson, Robert Patrick, Matthew Leeper, James Leeper.

This Alexander Porter of Mecklenberg Co. may be my Alexander's father.

Do you have a lot of information on this family?
