Alexander and Anne (Nancy) Porter, PA ca.1800
Seeking any information on the family of Alexander and Anne Porter of PA.I suspect, but am not certain, they were from one of the easternmost counties of PA (Newcastle Co., DE is also a possibility).I would estimate that their marriage would have occured sometime around 1800.Anne was said to be a sister of Commodore David Porter and Alexander a cousin of hers.
From two separate internet sources, if they are correct, I have found that they had at least two children, Mary Anna Porter and David Henry Porter.
David Henry Porter was in the U.S. Navy.He resigned in 1826 and followed his uncle, the Commodore, to Mexico. He was killed in 1828 while serving in the Mexican Navy.
Mary Anna Porter married her first cousin, John Porter Brown, son of another of the Commodore's sisters. They had at least one son, David Henry Porter Brown.
I would like to know if Alexander and Anne Porter had any other children and their names.I believe that David Henry Porter is my GGGgrandfather but am having the devil of a time proving it. My GGgrandfather left a letter behind that mentions his father's kinship with the Commodore and the fact that he was a mariner, but does not mention his name or any kind of circumstance surrounding his death. He did, however, mention a couple of uncles by name so I am hoping it will help if someone knows this family.
Also would be very interested to know about Alexander Porter and whether or not he was actually a cousin of Anne.My GGgrandfather's letter also gives some genealogy in general terms and it does not add-up with what I have been able to find on the Commodore's family. It revolves mostly around when the Porter family came to this country.
Sure would like to hear from anyone that knows these people.Thanks.
