Hi:
This is very interesting!I just happened to be checking the postings tonight on GenForum and here was a reply from you....
However, I NEVER GOT A MESSAGE FROM GENFORUM THAT YOU HAD ANSWERED.
I usually do.Now I wonder how many other posts I have inquired and never got.hmmm.
Well, to your question.
We are researching our ggg grandmother, TENNESSEE PORTER OUTLAW.
1.She is supposed to be 1/2 Indian.
2.We have a picture of her.
3.We have no information on her except a date of birth and presently we don't know where THAT came from?:(
4.We are told that OUTLAW was her maiden name.
5.Her date of birth was Nov 17, 1823.
So with very few facts we are going down lots of avenues with names that make up her name.
She was supposedly born in Tennessee so consequently we are thinking TENNESSEE, because it was her place of birth.
So the PORTER and OUTLAW have us stumped.
We have researched most of the OUTLAW connections in her general area in TN but have come up with nothing.

SO......
When I saw your post #4445 on the PORTER surname file I thought I would check it out as you mentioned a man by the name ofWILLIAM SHERMAN TECUMSEH PORTER.
I knew there had been a Shawnee Chief Tecumseh
(of course there was also that General William Tecumseh Sherman)
Also, my TENNESSEE PORTER OUTLAW (married James Franklin Summers) had a daughter named HARRIET ANGELINE SUMMERS, b. Nov 14, 1850, d. May 9, 1912, who had married W.T. FORTNER.
So I guess I was looking at:
1.The PORTER name
2.The TECUMSEH name
3.The FORTNER name
4.The possible Indian connection if TECUMSEH in William Sherman Tecumseh Porter was from Chief Tecumseh.
********************
I have learned that HARRIET SUMMERS FORTNER did marry her younger sister's widowed husband, MCGEE.But they did not stay married long and she moved on to Missouri, I believe.I don't know if she went on to use the Summers, Fortner, or McGee name in Missouri.
Thanks for any information you may have.Maybe one of the people will ring a bell for you.We are just hitting dead ends.
Pam
