Well your message caused me to go back and look at the Baldridges and Porters and, though you are right that we do not yet have a "smoking gun" that proves that the Wm. Porter born 1820 in N. C. is decended from the Porters in Rutherford Co., N. C. in 1820, given the info in the two books written in the 19th c. about the Baldridges and the places of residency/death of the kids of these folks and the amount of intermarriage across at least two generations in N. C. and then Illinois, I believe we have the same people. What I still do not know for sure is which Porter was Wm. Porter 1820's father. Enough for now, I guess.
