Hi Steven,
I am related to John Porteous b. 18 March 1853 in Glasgow, Scotland; d. 27 Oct 1901 in Florence, Alabama. His father was John Porteous, presumably of Scotland; his mother Mary Moffatt, place of birth unknown. He married Emma Lawler 28 April 1889 in Center Star, Alabama.
Is my John by any chance related to your John?
