There is a large tribe of PopulousPopulus in St. Tammany Parish, with many records available there in the courthouse. It's a very interesting family, and I've heard there has been a newspaper article written about this family, although I have not found it yet. I am not a Populus descendant, but my g.grandfather's youngest sister married a Populus 7 Dec. 1878, and I am quite interested to learn if there were any descendants of this marriage.
Sara Mathilda Brown b.c. 1845, dau. of Francis D. Brown and Elizabeth Coulter, first married William Joseph Glass and had 6 children: Margaret, Eliza or Ely, George, Mary "Molly", Thomas J. and Jenny. Then, her husband, James C. Glass, apparently died. Sarah married Vincent Populus Jr. in 1878 and is on the 1880 census with him, and her oldest and youngest daughters. Her other children seem to be farmed out to relatives and neighbors. I have not been able to locate my aunt in any census after 1880 and do not know when or where she died. I am unaware if she and Vincent had any children. She was about 33 years old when they married, so she was still of childbearing age. Thanks, Connee Kroeger
