I am researching family history on my maternal side (Popp/Guntow). According to a German historian, he claims to have researched church records in Bad Berneck, Bavaria, Germany. This is what he tells me: My grandfather (Bernhard Guntow), was born as the third child on 11/26/1875 of his mother Katherina Popp. She had one and the other in 1871. She was not married at this time. She was the daughter of a shoemaker (Johann Popp) in Bad Berneck No. 68. Her sister was Barbara Popp. So my grandfather was first named Bernhard Popp. His father was Georg Guntow. He was a carpenter from Lazendorf (a village 2 miles from Bad Berneck). We believe Georg and Katherina were married some years after Berhard's birth in Lanzendorf, so he became the name of his father - Guntow. Does anyone out there have any information to match this? Appreciate your help. Margaret (Stewart) Mitchell Notify Administrator about this message?
