there is another James Alston Poplin, born 1813.....He is my great grandfather. And, the first Poplins identified in Nc....Orange county/chatham county, at least one of them served in the service with an Alston. we have had to accept the possibility that there might have been a closer relationship with the Alston families...but, have been unable to prove this. The Alston families were several in the Orange, Chatham Counties. The Poplin lineage has been at a standstill for a number of years....Many assume a relationship with old George and Every Poplin...yet, until a proven fact of the relationship is found, we must basically remain in the "perhaps" mode. some day, some document may turn up for us all to find out the relationship existing within the Poplin families. I do know that my James Alston was born in Montgomery Co., NC and retained a relationship with his family in Stanley. I also have pictures of my grandfather with several of his cousins from Stanley Co area...all identified. K Menard
