I did a quick census check on 1850 Fairfield Ohio. Do you have any other census? If not my reading of the 1850 cenus is Elizabeth Pope age 38 (Ancestry states 28 but looks like 38 to me) born in Jacks or Lake Ohio. She is listed as head of household. Alfred is listed below with no occupation as 52 born in NC, it seems he may be sick. Could not find on another census. (Believe Elizabeth might be 2nd wife or if wife of John she is older than him.
Do you know where Alfred was in 1840? Do you have census of John and wife Elizabeth as you stated. She was born in Ohio census states.
