Hi,
I also think I am a descendent of Jacob thru Sampson's son Jacob and his son Elijah. Do you have the second Jacob's wife's name or the name of Elijah's wife and Elijah's children. In his will, Henry Pope named his daughter " Jane Brasswell." I found deeds in Chowan Co., No. Caro. which said Valentine Braswell and wife Jane/Jean, and mentions POA to John Pope to relinquish her dower rights. Also, in 1800 Census in Livingston Co., Kent. a Jane Pope and Nathan Pope are listed in the same household. In the same county is Elijah Pope, son of the second Jacob Pope. Does anyone know who Jane and Nathan are? Could this be Jacob's widow Jane Pope Brasswell Pope? I have also seen Jacob Pope married to Mourning Joyner, but I have found two book sources that say Jane Pope Brasswells sister Mourning Pope, daughters of Henry Pope, married her cousin Jacob Pope. John Pope who married Mourning Mckennie is their brother. Is that why Jacob and Jane Brasswell named their daughter Mourning--after her sister and his first wife? Does anyone have information to help me sort these out? I would certainly love to know all these things, and I am most appreciative of any answers. Also, Mary Pope married a Williams--sister of Mourning and Jane Pope Brasswell Pope -- did Jane marry Mary's sisters husband -- Williams before she and Jacob married? Thanks again.
