Ann, Andrew, John Poor - Poor's Ford Rutherfordton NC
Uzal Johnson, surgeon to Major Patrick Ferguson, kept a diary that gives much detail on the Battle of Kings Mountain Campaign. He states that he lodged with Mr. Power at Denard's Ford. This ford apparently became Poor's Ford after the revolution. The ford has been referred to in various documents as Poer's, Power's, Pore's, Poor's and Poore's Ford. The first reference to the family is "old Ann Pore".Then Andrew seems to be the one for whom the ford and road is named. He is called Power, Poor, and Pore as a land owner, as a patriot militia in the Cherokee campaign and on the Tory list.He moved to Elbert County Georgia after the Revolution. He had a brother named John.
In 1802, Andrew sold the property know as the Andrew Poor place granted to Andrew and John Poor by heirship which is now in Polk County NC, but was at the time in Rutherford, to James Cleghorn. If you have information on this family, please respond.
