Hi Valerie! It's your cousin Pam from Maine who is descended from George's sister Sophie Lacombe. We corresponded some years ago. We should meet! When George was talking about his grandmother, did he mention whether he meant his maternal or paternal grandmother? On Marie Louise/Josette Gagne/Roy/Quirion names see below*** Reviewing George Lacombe's other grandmother, who by odd coincidence is also named Marie Louise Gagne (spouse of Louis Thibodeau 9 Feb 1801 St. François-d'Assise, Beauceville, Québec, Canada and mother of Adelaide "Eliza" Thibodeau), that grandmother is descended from Huron ancestry! The native American was Marie Manitouabe8itch dit Olivier who married Martin PRÉVOST dit PROVOST. Do you have this line? >Marie Louise Gagne daughter of Marie Jeanne Cloutier and Louis Marie Gagne (& brother of Jean-Marie Gagne the supposed father of Marie Louise "Gagne/Roy/Quirion"!) >Marie Jeanne Cloutier daughter of Zacharie Cloutier and Claire Felicite Vachon (Noel Vachon dit Pomerleau and Marie Jeanne Belanger) >Zacharie Cloutier son of Francois Cloutier (Charles and Anne Thibault) and Marguerite David >Marguerite David daughter of Marie Anne Prevost and Jean David Pontife (Jacques and Marie Grandin) >Marie Anne Prevost daughter of Louis Prevost and Francoise Gagnon (Mathurin Gagnon and Francoise Godeau) >Louis Prevost son of Martin Prevost and Marie Manitouabe8itch dit Olivier, a Huron. Martin PRÉVOST dit PROVOST was originally from Paris, France. He was born before 4 Jan 1611 in Paris, France. He appeared at Québec in 1639. He was a valet then a receiver in the store at Québec. On 3 Jan/Nov 1644, he married a HURON native American, Marie Olivier dit Sylvestre, a daughter of Roch MANITOUABEOUICH, a ward of Olivier LETARDIF. He died at Beauport on 27 Jan 1681. Olivier LETARDIF served as an interpreter for Samuel de Champlain with the Native Americans" Hope to meet you! Pam ***I've fleshed out who the Gagnes, Roys and Quirions are as families. I've identified the witnesses to the Andre Lacombe Marie Louise Josette Gagne/Quirion/Roy marriage and how they are related to one another. I have not directly identified her lineage or last name (after 27 years of research, I might add!) The father absent at the marriage, Jean-Marie Gagne, had no children of his own and married twice to widows with a lot of children, so may not have had the last name Gagne anyway. Perhaps they adopted an Abenaki. I read in a Quebec history book that the Abenakis frequented Beauce area and did not confine themselves to Maine territory. I went to a talk at the Begin Center in Lewiston. The speaker said that frequently when the family story says "my grandparent" was a full-blooded native american, it is the story being passed down through generations, and the native american ancestry may be multiple generations further back. Once I heard this, I researched other family lines again and found Native Americans lines four generations back from where I had expected. Notify Administrator about this message?
