I know this is an old post but I had to try.In looking for John Pooler b. (c) 1838 in either Canada or Maine depending on which census you look at, I found a family in the 1850 census for Solon, Somerset, Maine that clicked. This family is headed by Lawrence and Rose Pooler.Living with them is, presumably, Lawrence's mother Cathern. The enumerator has poor handwriting or maybe he was in a hurry but there is a young female child and all you can make out in the name is "My".Couldn't this be in fact "Mary"?
The reason I was so interested in this family and feel it to be a part of my family is because this John that I am sure of goes on to name his first son John L. Pooler, and then through the generations there are middle initial "L" Pooler men and my Grandfather Pooler's middle name was Lawrence.
Could I be on to something finally or is this genealogy wishful thinking???
