You have a good start. However, In order to understand more about your ancestry, you will need to keep track of the date and location for each event. That enables you to develop a history for your ancestors. In my case, Joseph Pooler (Poulin) decided to join the Union Army during the Civil War. This is documented in the following website: http://users.adelphia.net/~frenchcx/civwar.htm I do not know why he joined the Army, but I do know when and where he enlisted. I also know approximatley how long he may have been in the Union Army. I also know what town he "said" he lived in at the time that he enlisted: Moose River. Yet, I have been unable to find him in the census records for that area and around that time. I can find him later in the county of Beauce, Quebec Province. There are a number of questions that I would ask him, if he were still alive. These questions would clarify his purpose and may enable me to come up with resonable answers to other questions. I use this approach to guide my searches. Might Joseph Pooler have lived in Beauce most of the time and yet hunt in Maine during the Fall of each year? Maybe his residence in Maine was just a camping spot and therefore not included in the census. I also become curious about his brothers and sisters. Did they live a life style similar to Joseph? When you get stuck, you can ask other people for help, or you can try to imagine what it was like then -- no cars, no radio, no telephones! How difficult was it to travel from Beauce to Waterville during that time? Etc. This is how I am approaching it. Maybe it will be of help to you. Good Luck! Notify Administrator about this message?
