Hi Joshua,
The dry cleaners connection means I had the right one. I've got your Pooler/Poulin line back to the beginning. Your great-grandfather was actually Edward Joseph (or Joseph Edward) Pooler, born in 1867 in Maine, the son of Charles Beoni Pooler, Jr. and Ursula Pooler. Charles & Ursula were second cousins.

Joseph Edward's sister, Estelle, married my great-grandmother's cousin. I have a bit of a story about your great-great-grandfather, Charles Pooler, Jr., written by Dana Pierce, who is a POULIN researcher:

"Charles Beoni (Poulin) Pooler, Jr., eighth generation Poulin, was a seaman of note. Charles (husband of Ursula) sailed as a cabin boy out of Bucksport, Maine, when only 12 years old. He sailed on "square riggers" the world over, China and Africa being two of the places he visited. On one voyage to Africa, he was infected with "black small pox" and he had to be left there for two years while he recovered. In addition to the pock marks left on his face from the disease, Charles was also distinguished by a tatooed star on each finger and a larger star in the web of each thumb. He was a kindly man. Church services were held in his house, 316 Broadway, and previously at 108 Broadway, Bangor, Me. He was a great help and assistance to French-Canadian new arrivals.. He used to fish the Grand Banks and George's Banks."

I have your family in the 1930 census living in Brewer, where Edward Joseph is running a dye shop (dry cleaners). Edward died in 1932, and his wife Ellen carried on the business. Your grandfather? James F. is 14 years old, the only child living at home. The three older children, Howard E. (born 1897), Edwin J, and Nancy-Ursula, are probably living on their own. Howard E. became a physician.

If you'd like, I will send you the ancestry report for the POULIN line by email. Let me know.

Regards,
Brenda Anderson
