Ken,

Still haven't found your missing Pontius but the following may help as a pointer:

"John Frederick Pontius came from Germany before the Revolution and settled
in Berks County, Pa. His son, John Nicholas, was born there in 1749....and
married Maria Appolonia Wilhelm, February, 1778, and had 9 children, --
Jacob Adam; John Frederick; Conrad; Elizabeth (married Samuel Geddes);
Catharine (married George Hassinger); Susan (married John Wormley) and 2
others. He died in 1831, surviving his wife, who died in 1813."

"Son John Frederick Pontius was born in Buffalo township, Union County, Pa
in 1788........On September 11, 1832, he was married to Mary Ann Larrabee,
whose father was Dr. John Larrabee who emigrated from Connecticut to
Mifflinburg and afterwards moved West and was drowned in the Ohio River.
Mrs. Larabee died August 18, 1877, having reached the age of 92 years.

Colonel John Frederick Pontius and his wife Mary Ann (Larrabee) had issue as
follows: John N., born June 17, 1833; Mary M.A.C.; Amelia Caroline, born
March 20, 1841, died March 23, 1869; Frederick Ephraim, born November 7,
1846, died August 20, 1881; and Susan M. He died June 17, 1869, aged nearly
81 years, being followed by his widow 7 years after.

Son John N. Pontius was married to Miss Sarah Jane Dreisbach on September
25, 1862 and the following children were born: Mary S., born August 16, 1863
and Nevin D., born April 17, 1868."

I can't positively ID this John Frederick Pontius and my unknown source above may have him wrong as the father of John Nicholas. Anyway it looks like she may have come from the immigrant Johannes Pontius (1717-1792 Buffalo Valley, immigrated in 1738). My line comes from this Johannes Pontius, brother Nicholas born 1728.

Let me know if you ever solve this mystery.

Harry Pontius
