According to "Ballard's Brave Boys" (an out of print book published in Wickliffe, KY, in 1974) John Palsgrove of Co. E, 12th Infantry, enlisted July 24, 1863, in Blandville, KY. He was captured by Union troops Sept. 30, 1863 at Swallow Bluff (no state indicated) and died at Rock Island, Ill. Subsequent research by me found a John Palsgrove who died at Camp Douglas, Illinois, near Chicago, on Nov. 4, 1864. He is buried in the "Confederate mound" at the former POW camp.
