John, your statement about perpetuating an error is so right. That is my reason for responding to a gross error being made regarding William Harrison Polsgrove (b.1814) not being the son of Henry Polsgrove (b.1784).I am frustrated at how best, and as concisely as possible, to respond to this totally false info.I will start by stating that, John, you keep saying "your sources in Fulton and Obion Co. state that they do not believe he was."In 1981 in Obion Co. and 1983 in Fulton Co., books were published, I know that u are aware of.In these books there are three articles on Polsgrove from Fulton Co.,Ky., every one of these clearly state that Wm. Harrison was Henry's son.
There are two articles from Obion Co., Tn. One was written by a great-uncle of mine, Almus Walker Polsgrove, he does not mention Henry's children by name, only stating that their were 14 of them. (which is wrong, there were 15 ). Even loved relatives make mistakes. The other Tn. article, written not my a 'blood' Polsgrove, but by his wife, states that Wm.Harrison was Henry's nephew.
This particular article is error ridden, as you scathingly state in your 1st. "Genealogy of Error " piece, yet you have chosen to believe this one woman's statement over all others, including my own, a descendant of Wm. Harrison, who shure ought to know.
William Harrison came to Jordan, Hickman Co., Ky. with the rest of Henry's family, probably in 1828.Henry and son John W.came 1st with brothers-in-law, the Lewis brothers, in 1827.By 1829, all of Henry's family as well as several other related familes joined up outside Jordan, Hickman., Co., Ky. ( the Browns, the Huffmans, the Wilsons (or so it appears).William Harrison was married in Hickman Co. to Sarah Bynum Ryan 5 Nov. 1834, at age 20/21.She was related on Mothers side to a very prominent Hickman Co. family, the Bynum's, thus her retention of the Bynum. (women like that sort of thing, heh, heh.)
All of this info can be documented with censuses, Tax lists, but more than anything else, with the passed down info. my Grandmother, Lula Zelphia Polsgrove Thornton related to me as a young boy.Her father was William Henry Polsgrove, son of William Harrison, son of Henry Polsgrove.
