Betty and All,
I think we have to be very careful trying to connect to Joseph Pollock (b.c1689, d. 1751-52), son of Robert Polk/Magdalen (Tasker) Porter.I have seen some researchers connect their lines to Joseph, without good proof, and without much merit, I might add. Some of the published info on Joseph is rather messy and murky.I have managed to come up with the following children by the first wife, whose surname appears to have been Wright - (1)Ann Pollock, b. c1732, MD., m. Daniel Morris, Jr.; (2) Robert Pollock, b. after 1732, d. c1762, MD., m. Betsy Polk (who was married five times), dau of Robert Polk/Alice Covington. Clement Polk, b. after 1752, is the only child of the second wife Betsy (by Robert Pollock) that seems to have any merit (that is, exixtence can be proven), but there well may have been others.Clement Pollock, d. between 17 March - 21 Aug 1784, likely in Sussex Co., DE.
I have found no connections between any of the PA. Pollock groups to Joseph Pollock, son of Robert/Magdalen aforementioned.Doesn't mean there wasn't, what with the potential missing children of Robert Pollock/Betsy.
I agree with others on this forum that getting some more DNA tests done on known descendants would likely be helpful in sorting these Pollocks. But seems lately, people just have not been tested, perhaps it is the economy.Of course, even with DNA results, that still leaves us with the paper trail to find, and that is a tough, hard challenge, Ive been at it for over 25 years, and have yet to solve the ancestry of and a lot of these Pollocks and variations in MD. and PA.They just seem to appear out of nowhere. But most of them likely came over in the early 1720s-1730s, from Ireland, and there is just little paper to find on them until they get some land.
Of Joseph Pollock's descendants, the only movement out of the east (MD., DE.) that I know of was Ann Pollock and her husband Daniel Morrison, Jr., this family moved to KY.Of the second wife of Joseph Pollock, that is, Lydia (surname not known) - Zephaniah Pollock was alive in 1782; James Pollock was alive as of June 1752; Rebecca Pollock, I know nothing about what happened to her; Rhoda Pollock (who sometimes is shown as Rhoda Polk), b. c1748, d. 21 Dec 1827, probably in DE., married William Masten; Magdalen Pollock, I know nothing.
I saw recently on this forum that Robert Polk (who m. Magdalen Tasker Porter) might have had relatives who came over from Ireland with him.Yes, possible, but finding any evidence of these people is about impossible. The only Polk that has been found (who can be connected via some documents) who may be connected to Robert is John Polkey, whose birth is unknown, and who d. between 20 Dec 1702 and 24 May 1703, without children, Somerset Co., MD., and who is the same man as the John Polk who was thought to be the son of Robert/Magdalen, the John Polk whose cattle brand was used as a basis for when Robert Polk/Magdalen (Tasker) Porter arrived in Maryland. Thanks to the detailed and meticulous research of John F. Polk of Maryland, we know of this John Polkey's existence and how his records were mixed with those of John Polk, son of Robert/Magdalen.Bill Polk, Kansas City.
