Thanks for the encouragement, I have been trying to look at the Worcester MD posted records and census data on the genealogy web sites, and I have found where there were a number of Pollitt listings that had a number under the slaves column. Here is what I found last night under 1800:
Pollitt Levin 10 slaves
Pollett Stephan 3 slaves
Pollett Sam 5 slaves
Pollett William 14 slaves
Pollett Joshua 7 slaves
and for 1790 Pollett William 8 slaves.
That spelling was the one used in my great aunt's manuscript, so that is why I was looking for that spelling. Anyway, I looked at the transcribed records and can't find the birth records of Tubman Pollett, but one person, Bryan Lane has Tubman Pollitt, on a GEDCOM with father Thomas Pollitt and Rebecca Miles. with brother William, and sisters Peggy, Molly, and Betsy.Thomas Pollitt he has as his father William Pollitt with his brothers Jonathan, thomas and George. Thomas's siblings were William, Littleton, james, Sarah, and Nancy. I ran these names through the search engines and could hardly find any matches for them, but here is what I do have:
Tubman was in Fleming Co KY in 1830. He had married Nancy Farrow in Fleming Co KY. There were many Pollitt families located in Mason Co KY at that time, he was there for over 20 years and he then packed up wife and 8 kids and come to Indiana like other Pollitt families did, but I can find them listed but can only find the census data for Tubman Pollitt then he and his family disappear. I looked for the ones that went to Fulton Co IL from IN, but nothing comes up. I don't know, maybe this is one of those cases where I have to spend 20 years to find out! anywhay, maybe I am just trying to find out why this person was not so well documented as all the other Pollitt families in KY. He seems to be "obscure" nothing notable except he is on 1830 and 1840 census for Fleming KY and my aunt's statement from her manuscript says he came from VA to IN in a covered wagon in 1834. (That was the year my GGGrandmother was born, and I had a very hard time finding these people in KY!)I just hope if you come across any hard to trace Pollitts in the MD areas that you may share with me. Thanks Joan Striegel
