Charles Cavanah III [1678-1756] and Philemon Cavanah [1680-1743] were brothers; sons of Charles Cavanah II.
Charles' descendants spelled their surname Cavanah/Cavanaugh with a "C" while Philemon's descendants spelled their surname with a "K"....Kavanaugh.
Philemon Cavanah was born c1680 and married Sarah Ann Williams.Philemon [1680] named a son Charles [after his brother].
Philemon's son Charles was born c1712, his will was written in 1795 and probated in 1796 in Madison County, KY.His will names wife Ann but she was NOT Ann Coleman...she was Ann Covington. So the DAR Index record is inaccurate [happensa lot of times].
Although multiple "reports" record the wife of Charles Kavanaugh as Ann Coleman, many current researchers have documented her name was Ann Covington and that she was the daughter of William Covington III and Ann Coleman (daughter of Robert Coleman). The will of this William Covington III, probated in 1762 in Essex County, VA does refer to a daughter Anne Kavanaugh.
So Philemon's son Charles did marry a woman named Ann but it was HER mother that was Ann Coleman.
Philemon is not my line but I thought you might like to know the corrections.
Now for my dilemma:
Thomas Pollard JUNIOR married Memorial Cavanah.
Thomas Pollard Jr. was born c1722 and died 1791 Craven County, NC.He was the son of Thomas and Susannah Pollard.Thomas Pollard Jr. married Memorial Cavanah who was born c1726.
Memorial Cavanah [1726] was the daughter of Charles Cavanah III [1678-1756].
Charles Cavanah III [1678-1756] only record of wife's name is listed with the event of his death in "Edgecombe County, North Carolina Vital Records, 1720-1880".This record gives Charles Cavanah III [1678-1756]wife name as:Sister of Thomas Pollard.
I want to determine who/what is the full name of Miss Pollard, Charles Cavanah III [1678-1756] wife, to determine her ancestors.Given Charles birth year of 1678, she would have been born c1675-1685 and was most likely a sister to Thomas Pollard Sr.....father of Thomas Pollard Jr. [1722-1791] who married Memorial Cavanah.
I do not have access to the Virginia Genealogical Magazine or the Pitts County Books so I was hoping that you would share with me what you had on the Pollard and Cavanah line(s) so I can compare notes and use it as a springboard for research.
Can you assist me in sorting this out?
Can you share your research with me?
Would you like a descendant report with my research and all of the compiled notes?
Tina
