Nicole,
This Charles is the son of William Polk/Sarah Shoptaw, said Charles b. 16 June 1847, KY., probably Bullitt Co., d. 7 Aug 1890, probably in Johnson Co., IN., buried in Johnson Co., IN., Greenwood Cemetery. Also buried there are his parents William Polk & Sarah Shoptaw, and some other relatives.Margaret Knight Nixon was one of possible three wives of Charles E. Polk, and she appears to be the mother of all his children.Charles E. Polk and Margaret Knight Nixon married in Johnson Co., IN., 10 Aug 1884.You omitted a child, Dolly, b. 13 June 1885, Johnson Co., IN., dead before the 1900 census (death I assume, as she was not with widowed mother in 1900 census, all living with Margaret's father, John B. Nixon, Johnson Co., IN.).That 1900 census is a bit misleading in that it shows Margaret had 4 children, 4 children living, but she had 5, 4 living.I have found no tombstone of this child Dolly in Johnson Co., IN., causes me to think the child died as infant, no tombstone, and so long ago (before the 1900 census) that the mother just did not consider it in the number of children she had (this my theory, my guess).Bill Polk, Kansas City, MO.
