Vivian,
There are no death certificates for NC. back when the parents died. The dates are tombstone dates. You indicated that Carley Lee Thompson was buried in Shiloh Cemetery, and his name does appear on the listing of burials/tombstones for that cemetery, but I do not see anything for Ebenezer Thompson nor for Elsie, either under Fink or Thompson. So, assuming your uncle was right about where Ebinezer and Elsie were buried, the listing is wrong, or these two do not have tombstones.
For your info, I have the death certs for Elsie, but not for Ebnezer Thompson; I have the death cert. for Milas Franklin Fink. I have the death certs for Joel Thomas Thompson, Amanda (Thompson) McManus, Ransom Luther Thompson, Carley Lee Thompson, and Willis T. Thompson. I have not found anything for John H. Thompson, the oldest child (who lived) after the 1900 census, don't know anything about him, death, marriage, etc. and I have nothing after the 1910 census for the youngest child, Ella Thompson, age 7 in 1910 (so she could have married young, I suppose, but if so, I do not know who she married). Appears there were 7 children who lived, John H. Thompson to at least age 17 or so, Ella, as stated, to at least age 7. The only possible child that Elsie and Milas Fink may have had (to my knowledge) would be Hubert Fink, who appears as age 7 in the 1920 census. I don't know when Milas' first wife Susan died, nor have I found a marriage record for Milas and Elsie, but obviously the couple had to marry after 15 April 1910 and before 1 Jan 1920, so Hubert Fink could be a son of either the first wife of Milas or of Elsie. I have found nothing on this Hubert Fink, so I wonder if he died young. Milas Fink was buried in Mecklenburg Co., NC., per his death cert., and I do wonder if Elsie was buried there, also, since she does not show up in the cemetery aformentioned. You are fairly close there in Rock Hill, guess you might want to check out where Elsie and etc. are really buried (but your uncle may be right, and there are no standing tombstones for Ebenezer and Elsie in Shiloh Baptist).
Question: Have you done any recent research at the big library in Rock Hill? I ask because it has been almost 20 years since I was there researching, and I am curious if the library has microfilm of early land deeds. Do you know about these being there? I hate to deal with any courthouse on land deeds, but a big problem with my own Polk line may necessitate some more research in York Co., SC. No big deal if you don't know. Bill Polk, Kansas City, MO.
