Thanks George I have been to Polk Mountain and Watson's Creek.. I posted a picture of Col Thomas Polk's DAR marker on Julie Ganis' website... the marker is apparently wrong in that it states that this Col Thomas Polk was Commander of the 4th NC Reg't. All records that I have seen gives that credit to Col/Gen Thomas Polk of Mecklenburg, Co. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jganis/unionco/ThomasPolkCemetery.html I discovered recently that Thomas Gilchrist Polk, Gen Thomas Polk's grandson, was a General of this same reg't, after the war.. so there is a lot of mis-information about this Polk family besides the published genealogy. I will search for Thomas' documents for train tracks... that is news to me... I have often wondered how he managed to accumilate so much land during his life... and how it was lost so quickly after his death.... of course, his second wife, about one fifth his age, received about five hundred acres as 'Widow's Dower'... not bad for being married to him for about nine months.... bob Notify Administrator about this message?
