Hi Bob,

Thanks for the link to your collection of documents. Is good to read back through these deeds! My work has been busy lately and so I haven't had the time I wish to dealve deeply into this stuff. But for old John, how would you like to be able to walk the land where the old stone house was once located?

Take a look at one of my land grant sites: http://www.angelfire.com/nc/benjthomasofansonnc/southword.html

Also click at the bottom to see the larger map.

Look at entry #9. This is the land that passed down to the Fredericks. And then in the key map section G, compare that LAND GRANT to the deed of issuance naming the rock house. Much of the land in the area was originally granted through Gov. Glenn out of SC back in the 1740's and 50's. After a dispute settled by the king, Gov Dobbs and McCullough and Co gained control of the land and it was then deeded. In 1778, after the death of Dobb's, unsold portions of the Dobb's tracts reverted for issuance as Sec of State land grants. Sometimes two people would claim ownership of the same land and that was settled in court. Anyhow, not certain of the complete title history of the stone house tract. However, it appears it was sitting right there at the crossing of the old charlottetowne to Elizabethtowne highway crossing at the mouth of Clear Creek. Today the road is known as Polk Ford Road.
