Attn - Bill Polk - Regarding John Polk & Nancy Barnett
Bill, I started a new list so that this wouldn't get mixed up with the longer one we have been pursuing.
I too, have been searching for the answer of the John Polk who died in Mecklenbug Co. NC July 9 1809, age 34 according to his tombstone in the Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Charlotte. He is the only Polk buried in this cemetery.
In your response #2002, you mentioned him so let's talk about him a little bit as I have been trying to get his place in the family as well.
I shall have to bring in the email exchange between you and Jack Ciaccia in 2001, hope you won't mind.
In that exchange between you two, following the will of John Polk July 9 1809 Mecklenburg Co. NC is a List for further research, he explains "These are the wills of John Polk, Milas J. Robinson and John Weeks, all husbands of Nancy FORESTER and all buried in the Providence Presbyterian Church Grave Yard."
Can you confirm that Nancy's surname is Forester? You refer to her as Nancy BARNETT in your #2002 message.
Now to go on, in the Will of Milas J. Robinson (1825), he mentions notes owed his estate by Jermiah Alderson and William Alderson which makes me think of the John Polk who married Elizabeth Nancy Alderson, who your notes indicate is the son of John Polk and Eleanor (Shelby) Polk.Could you entertain the idea that the wife of John Polk who died in 1809 in Mecklenburg Co. NC is Nancy Alderson?
Back to the page on World Connect Genealogy by Rootsweb posted by Jack Ciaccia -He discusses John Lee Polk as having been born Nov 1774 in York Co. SC and died 9 July 1809 in Mecklenburg Co. NC.This is the same John Polkwhose wife is Nancy and his mother is Polly Barnett per his will. His two children are:Mary "Polly" B. Polk and John Armstead Polk born 1809/1810.These two children are listed as heirs in the will of Milas J. Robinson.
In the will of John Weeks, he gives to his wife Nancy Weeks all the property in my possession left to her by her former husband Milas J. Robinson. He also mentions his daughter Margaret Barnett. In "Marriages, Mecklenburg Co. North Carolina" 1783-1868 by Brent H. Holcomb is the following marriage:Robert C. Barnett & Margaret Weeks, married 27 Nov 1827; John N. Davis, Bondsman, Pearsall Thompson, wit.
In that same marriage book is the Followin:Robert F. Barnett & Mary T. Sample. 9 Dec 1828, Hezekiah Alexander Bondsman, Tho. B. Small, wit.In the will of James Sample4 Sep 1849 Mecklenburg Co. wife is Martha (Robinson) Sample and a daughter Polly T. Barnett.
Question?Could this Mary "Polly" Barnett be the mother of John Polk?
I'll close it up for now.
