Hi Betty.
Thanks for the response.
I have some information that might help.
James K. Polk that I mentioned is the son of Thomas Polk, Jr. b. September 25, 1802 Mecklenburg Co. NC and Sarah Brooks b. September 16, 1805 NC, according to my father.
James K. Polk is a brother to my father's grandmother, Margaret A. Polk b. February 13, 1850 Union Co. NC.
Margaret A. Polk married James M. Johnson, my ggrandfather. James Johnson b. 1857 (Diamond Hill District of Anson County) very near the Union Co. line.
Margaret A. Polk and husband James M. Johnson along with James K. Polk and wife Sarah Brooks Polk are buried at Cedar Grove Church cemetery, located on highway 742 in nw Anson County. All graves are marked with headstones.
The children of James K. Polk and Sarah are not proven, but in my database are as follows:
Louisa Caroline Polk b December 09, 1825
Andrew H. Polk b October 25, 1826
Jane Emaline Polk b. May 29, 1828
William H. Polk b August 06, 1830
Shelby Polk b April 02, 1833
Thomas James Polk b August 23, 1835
Mary Polk b August 16, 1837
Marshal Polk b July 12, 1839
Sarah Polk b February 15, 1841
James K. Polk b September 01, 1845
Martha Polk b March 26, 1848
Margaret A. Polk b February 13, 1850
It is very hard to find information on this polk family as they moved (and county lines moved) from Meck. Co. to Union Co. to Anson Co. and back again.
The only members of this family that are personally known by my father is his grandmother, Margaret A. Polk and her brother James K. Polk. They lived a couple of miles from my father's birthplace near Cedar Grove Church, Anson Co. NC.
My father recalls visiting his grandmother, who lived with her son Lex Johnson near Cedar Grove Church, and her brother James K. Polk would visit them. I have a picture of Margaret A. Polk taken approx. her 70th birthday.
My father said that James K. Polk was medium built, almost 6 feet tall, and thin, with a long white beard at the time that he knew him, which was about 1915 and later. He suffered from arthritis and would baby sit my father while the rest of the family was working on the farm. The last 2-3 years of his life, he was totally blind.
James K. Polk apparently lived in Union Co. when he died, but probably was living with one of his siblings as you indicated.
Thanks a lot for your help. I need all the help available.
Bobbie
