Perry and Hocking County OH Polings--Civil War

My g-g-grandfather, Robert Bowlin (Bowland) was a member of Company G of the 114th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Fortunately, several of his letters written during the war survive. I have transcribed most of them and passed them on to a friend who posted them on his website. The direct link to the letters is shown below.

Some of the letters mention the Polings in the company and the father back home. Robert was good friends with the Polings and there is a marriage or two tying the families together (researcher Steve Poling is a distant relative!). I am not certain where these Polings resided at the time of the war. Company G was made up of men from Perry and Hocking Counties, and Robert first lived in Hocking before relocating to Perry. He could have known them from either place.

Please feel free to e-mail me direct or post here for further discussion.
