My mother was born in Poland in 1925 and emigrated in 1927 with her parents and little sister. She grew up in Detroit where her mother , Michaelina Mazur Bak and several brothers and their father, Martin Mazur lived. They left Michaelina's mother and sister (s?) behind in Wydrna.
My mother and I visited the Podkarpackie area in 2010 in the hopes of finding some ancestral information and possibly some relations. We found one cousin on her father's side in P-Town (I called it that because Przysietnica, Podkarpackie, Poland was too hard to say! Surname Bak.
When we went over to Wydrna, we were told by some of the citizenry that the town was rounded up by the Germans and were sent to Birkenau. So, we reached a bit of a dead end. Katarzyna Mazur would have been around 70 years old and her daughter, Stanislawa about 40, if they lived that long.
In scouring through records in Brzozow, we found the children's names as well as parents and grandparents. I felt this was like hitting pay dirt! Unf, the Catholic diocese was closed as it was August so we could not make a trip over there.
But, I keep looking as I would like to find out what happened in Wydrna and if there are any relations. I am hoping someone can provide me with some insight or contacts in Wydrna who have email or may speak English.
The Mazur information is as follows:
Michaelina Mazur born 29 Sept 1902 in Wydrna to Martin Mazur and Kataryna Jarosz.
Siblings of Michaelina are:
Martin b 1890
Kazimer b 1893
Jospeh b 1897
Felix b 1898
Stanislawa b. 1900 (she and her mother Kataryna remained in Wydrna and the remaining family emigrated starting in 1902)
Parents of Martin Mazur are Andreas Mazur and Anna ???- I found a record in 1891 that stated Andreas was an architect in Wydrna but I am not sure if this is the same individual.
Parents of Kataryna Jarosz are Joseph Jarosz and Saloome Pocalun.
