Research Trip to Poland advice?

Has anyone done research in Poland? I am going to Warsaw for work and decided to extend my trip for 5 days. I would love to take the opportunity to do some research also. I was wondering if anyone had experience of going to the State Archives in Warsaw or using any other resources there. Or if you have been to Lublin or researched there I would love to hear from you.

I know I want to go visit Lublin as two of my great-parents lived there and both were born in nearby villages (Chmiel and Bychawa Wola). However, my other ancestors (those that I was able to find their towns and I have reached dead ends) are from the Poznan area, what was once in Vilno gubernia but is now in Belarus and one great grandfather listed Koscielna on his draft card and per the Slownik Geogrficzny I'm not sure if that is Koscielna gora, Koscielna Jania or Koscielna Wies. I thought if there was a central place for me to see records it might be helpful. I don't really have the time or budget to travel to all the areas in Poland that I would like to on this trip.

I only have a minimum of phrasebook Polish (and genealogy Polish) at this point, though I'm going to try to improve. I also know French and a little bit of German. Has anyone been able to manage going to an archives to do research without strong Polish language skills? If you have any experience of hiring an interpreter or researcher I would like to hear about your experiences.
