need advice on Austrian Hungarian Military Records 1890 - 1902

I'm looking to see if a record exists for my great grandfather. There is a rumor in my family that he was a deserter prior to coming to the U.S.

In reviewing the process to finding a record it seems I need to find the regiment he would have served in (under LDS Film 1187917). I'm looking for guidence on this, is this based on the area he lived in? We are not sure on that... around Sanok Poland to Starzawa Ukraine (south of Dobromyl).

Second, I need to have his class (the year he joined). We have no idea on this. He was married about 20 years of age and then had childern up until the time he left for the US in 1902. Not sure where these records are located, films, etc??

Thanks in advance.
