Nowy Dwor - Which one?
Greetings,
I recently found my Ellis Island records for my Polish ancestors who came here in 1913. The husband arrived a few months before his wife. The problem is that they listed two different cities as their last residence.
They both came from the Russian Partition as their country of origin was Russia and their ethnicity is Polish.
The husband came first and the digital Ellis Island record lists his last place of origin as "Gmushniky," however the handwritten text looks more like "Glushniky." The handwritten text is not very legible and I cannot find the name of a placethat remotely resembles a place such as "Gmushniky."
When the wife came over, she listed her last residence as "Nowy Dwor," which is slightly frustrating because there is quite a few places in Poland named "Nowy Dwor."
Now the question that I have for anyone that knows Polish geography and/or history better than I is if there is a city similar to how "Gmushniky" looks or sounds near one of the many cities named "Nowy Dwor" that was at one point under Russian rule.
If anybody has even a guess to try and get me moving in the right direction I would highly appreciate it.
Thank you,
- Derek Byrne
