Hi Georgina,
It appears that your search for Louis Lyson and Marya Karkosza should be focused in the Polish powiat (county) of Wadowice, the birthplace of the late Pope John Paul.
There is an August 5, 1912 Ellis Island arrival record for a Marya Lyson and her two (2) children,3 year old Jan and 3 month old Zofia. They arrived from Hamburg on the S.S. Amerika and their destination was 71 “Delray” Street in Detroit where they were going to join their husband and father Ludwick Lyson.
Marya listed her father Wojciech Wykrel in Sulkowice Austria as her nearest relative in her native land.
Ludwick/Louis Lyson arrived at Ellis Island on March 6 1912 on board the S.S. Finland. His destination was Detroit MI where he was going to join his brother-in-law Jan “Krezpica”.He listed his wife Maryanna Lyson in Targanice as his nearest relative in his native land.
Louis had a brother Paul who lived with him and his family during the 1920 census.
Pawel/Paul Lyson arrived at Ellis Island on November 13, 1912 on board the S.S. Vaderland. His destination was Detroit, MI where he was going to join his cousin Johann (or Jan) “Krezpica”.Paul listed his father Franciszek Lyson in Targanice Andrychow as his nearest relative in his native land.
Sulkowice (population 4,278) and Targanice (population 3,326) are about 3 kilometers apart.
Best regards,
Norbert
