Hi Katie,
I was able to locate the December 4, 1913 Baltimore arrival record for Marie Fajkus and her three (3) siblings.
According to the document, her destination was Ovid, Clinton County, MI (present-day zip code 48866) where she was going to join her father Jan/John Fajkus. Her nearest relative in her native land was her grandmother Kata Fajkus in “Uh. Ostroh” (Uhersky Ostroh 687-24) Moravia, Austria (now in the Czech Republic).
It appears that Marie left Michigan for Chicago where she met and married Richard Tuhacek on August 22, 1914.They were married by a Justice of the Peace.
In the 1920 census, the Richard Tuhacek family is living at 2704 North Merrimac Ave. in Chicago IL (present-day zip code 60639)
In the 1930 census, the family is living in rural Clyde Township, in Allegan County, MI.
Mary’s brother Antonin Fajkus was born on April 23, 1899 in “Vienna” Austria (he died on July 20, 1988 in Hot Springs National Park, Garland County, AR 71913, SSN 337-10-6944).
He was married to Anna and in the 1930 Chicago census (”Anton Faikus”) they had two (2) sons, both born in the Czech Republic: Milo born in 1922 and Tony born in 1923.
There is an August 1, 1923 Boston Arrival record for Antonin Fajkus. His destination was 2439 North 78th Court in Elmwood Park, IL where he was going to join his sister Mary “Tuhank”.His nearest relative in his native land was his wife “Alzbeta” in Hroznova Lhota Czechoslovakia (now Hroznova Lhota Czech Republic 696-63).
Uhersky Ostroh and Hroznova Lhota are only about 11 kilometers apart.
For more detailed information about these locations, I would suggest posting on the Czech Republic General Forum.
I will email you copies of the documents discussed above.
Best regards,
Norbert
