Siuta
I found a Ceuta, Spain. Is there a connection to the Polish Siuta?
My ancestor was Joannis Sintowa, on marriage certificate. Polish for Sinta or it might have been Siuta.
I read that Joanes was a Spanish male name in the 15th century.
My ancestors were also Piechowicz.
I found a Spiechowicz not one of my ancestors, but is it possible this might be the original spelling?
I also found a Walantowitz. Is it possible my Walanto's original name was Walantowitz?
I also found a Catherina Sinta born 1866 from Ropa, Gorlice, Poland on LDS. Same area as my ancestors Walanto were from. She married Jose Furman who was also born in Poland. They were married in Brazil. (possible Catholic missionaries)or they just went there to farm.
Catherina's father was Joao Sinta. I read that Joao is Portuguese for John and Jose is Spanish.
I read that Sinta, Sinti and Sinte were the names of Romani Gypsies. There were two tribes Roma and Sinta. Any connections there to the Sintowa or Siuta in Poland? Other names in my family Sebastianus Sintowa. Sebastian sounds Spanish. I know that wicz means "son of" I have a Jacobus in the family too. Marianna Piechowics brother's name was Jacobus (Jacob). My great grandfather's family sent him here because they sensed trouble brewing. Might he have been a mixed ethnic descendant of Baptised Sephardic Jews or Gypsy's from earlier times who mixed with the local people of Poland?
