Hi Tadeusz and Norbert,
Well, guess what?I finally did receive the Naturalization papers (well, the Declaration of Intention) for Karol Przybylski, aka "Charles Przyblyski" dated November 1913, after he had been living a few years in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan, USA.
Turns out, he states he was born in Wilno, Russia, Poland, NOT Krakow, as my friend believed all these years (although perhaps he did move to Krakow at some point before emigrating from Europe).
I have looked for his immigration record EVERYWHERE (and Norbert has so graciously helped look, too). But on the Naturalization record it clearly states he immigrated on the Minnetonka, leaving from Liverpool, England, arriving at Philadelphia around the 19th of July 1907.
I have researched the Minnetonka to the best of my ability, and it definitely was at sea in July (in fact, Mark Twain was aboard!), but I can't find proof it arrived in Philadelphia.
Why would he leave from England? How did he get to England? Is there a way to find out?
But the year of immigration matches the date he provided on various US Federal Censuses, and his DOB of 29 Dec 1885 matches his draft registration.
My question is:do you two, or anyone else, have any advice how I proceed further finding birth records, other family records, etc for Karol Przybylski in Wilno?
His parents' names were Feliks and Anna.
Does Vilnius they still keep Polish records? I assume they would.Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
Many thanks!
-Jennifer
