Hi Ray,
There are several U.S. documents that support Robert’s findings that your family is from Ropa Poland.
There is a March 14, 1909 Baltimore Passenger List for an Andrzej Siuta family. The family had sailed from Bremen Germany on February 27, 1909 on board the S.S. Breslau. The family consisted of the father Andrzej, the mother Julia and their five (5) children: Pawel, Ignacy, Josef, Marya and Piotr.Their destination was 13th Street in Pittsburg PA where they were going to join their son and brother Jan/John.According to the arrival record, Andrzej and Julia had previously been in Pittsburg from 1904 until 1907.
There is a 1910 U.S. Census record for the Andy Siuta family. It is indexed on Ancestry.com as Andy “Shutta” living at 1201 Third Avenue in New Kensington Ward 1, Westmoreland County, PA.
Andrzej Siuta was born in Ropa Galicia between 1858 and 1864.He married Julia around 1881, presumably in Ropa (or perhaps Brunary) Galicia.Julia was born between 1860 and 1869.Julia had eleven (11) children of which seven (7) survived:All of the children were born in Poland. The children living with the parents in 1910 were: John born in 1891, Stanley born in 1893, Ignacy (your grandfather) born on March 25, 1895, Joseph born on February 2, 1897, Mary born between 1898 and 1902, and Peter born between 1901 and 1904.It is unclear where Pawel/Paul (born around 1896) was during the 1910 census.
Your grandfather used the name of Ignacy Siuta. There are WW I, WW II and U.S. Naturalization documents for your grandfather.
His Naturalization documents indicate that he was born in Ropa Galicia Poland and immigrated through the Port of Baltimore in 1909.His WW II Draft Registration document indicates that he was born in “Bronarva” (probably should be Brunary) Austria Hungary.
His brother Joseph’s WW I and WW II Draft Registration Cards indicate that he was born in Ropa, Austria Poland.
I will email you copies of the documents discussed above.
I know you and your wife will enjoy your visit to Poland.
Best regards,
Norbert
