Marchewka -> Marhefka Conversion
Hello,
My great-grandfather, Jacob Marchewka, came from Ochotnica, near Nowy Targ, Poland early in the 20th century.At some point along the way, he and his wife/children stopped going by Marchewka and started going by Marhefka.Ochotnica is very close to the Slovak border, and Marhefka is a Slovak name.However, I know that Jacob was born of Polish parents from LDS microfilms.Are Marhefka and Marchewka equivalent (i.e., same meaning?)Any thoughts of why he would stop going by Marchewka?
Thanks!
