I know nothing of Poland, so thanks for your input. The names of the Ugeon and Muscova in Poland just came down through word of mouth from family, but it was all we had to go on.
They are listed on the Allemannia arriving 6-17# 662-665.On the departure log for that ship Premnitz or something like that is listed as their home town.The Black forest thing comes from oral history that Antoni had served as a Game Warden in the Black Forest.
The first Census I can find them on is June 1880 Federal, listed as Smith....my grandfather is the age 14 Nicholas on it.Some relative claims to have found them listed as Corolsic in the 1870 census and Smith in the 1875 Minnesota census.
They changed the name to Schmidt upon coming to the U.S.
What I am really trying to find is where they came from and who their parent or siblings were.I think knowing the Catholic Church they went to in Poland would provide more records.
