Don't confuse ethnicity with nationality. By 1795 all of Poland was out of existence. It had been divided up between Germany, Russia and AUSTRIA. All the Poles livingin the Polish province of GALICIA suddenly became Austrian citizens. The only things that changed were the army the men were drafted into and the pocket the tax money went into. That situation lasted until 1918 when all the Poles were freed from Germany, Russia and Austria being every bit as Polish as their ancesters were 125 years before.
The line between Christians and Jews was not crossed very often but it was crossed. The fact that a Jew had a certain surname does not imply that everyone with that same surname is also a Jew. Because Jews and Christians lived together in Poland for 500 years it is logical that plenty of Jews would have somehow acquired Polish surnames.
